Academic Senate

The Academic Senate holds significant responsibilities in shaping the teaching, research, and educational standards of the University of Kigali. 

  1. Guidelines for Admission and Assessment: The Senate establishes the criteria for student admissions and the procedures for their assessment and evaluation.
  2. Faculty Recruitment and Promotion: It ensures the recruitment and promotion of teaching staff and researchers, subject to approval by the Governing Body.
  3. Program Evaluation and Monitoring: The Senate regularly evaluates and monitors academic programs, research initiatives, and overall education quality.
  4. Student Performance Decisions: It makes important decisions regarding student performance, including promotions, repeating a year, or expulsion.
  5. Academic Rules Drafting: The Senate drafts academic regulations to maintain high standards and smooth academic operations.
  6. Program Development: It develops academic programs and teaching methodologies, which are then submitted to the Governing Body and the national agency for higher education approval.
  7. Reporting: The Senate submits quarterly and annual activity reports to the Governing Body of the University of Kigali.

By fulfilling these responsibilities, the Academic Senate ensures that the University of Kigali continues to provide excellent education and fosters a vibrant academic community.
