Our Story
A Leading University for Transformative Learning
The University of Kigali (UoK) is one of Rwanda’s premier private institutions of higher learning, renowned for academic excellence, innovation, and a strong commitment to producing globally competitive graduates. Established in October 2013 after receiving its definitive operating license, UoK is fully accredited and chartered by the Government of the Republic of Rwanda.
From a humble beginning with just 35 students, the University has grown into a vibrant academic community of over 9,000 learners as of December 2025, representing more than 35 countries across Africa, Asia, and Europe. This incredible diversity demonstrates our dedication to internationalisation and delivering world-class education.
UoK operates across three campuses:
Kigali Main Campus – Prestine House, Gasabo District, near Kigali Heights, just 3 km from the city centre
Musanze Campus – Located in the prestigious RSSB Building, Northern Province
Remera Campus – The newly opened modern campus, home to the School of Business and innovation-driven learning spaces
Our growth is anchored in a clear institutional vision, an ambitious strategic plan, strong local and international partnerships, market-aligned academic programmes, and a distinguished faculty drawn from Rwanda, the region, and across the globe.
To date, the University of Kigali has successfully graduated over 10,000 professionals who are now contributing to national, regional, and global development in diverse sectors.

The University of Kigali’s distinct strength lies in being a secular, locally founded institution built on a clear vision to provide first-class, market-driven and industry-relevant academic programmes. Established by a team of highly experienced promoters from diverse professional backgrounds, including finance, economics, urban planning, international development, government, business, and investment. UoK was created to meet Rwanda’s evolving workforce needs and global competitiveness goals.
The University is led by a team of skilled academic and administrative professionals who uphold the highest standards of quality. UoK exceeds national higher education requirements, with 35.7% of its faculty holding PhDs, and maintains a 60:40 academic-to-non-academic staff ratio, underscoring its strong commitment to academic excellence.
The University of Kigali maintains strategic partnerships with reputable institutions across Kenya, Ghana, India, South Africa, Cyprus, Germany, Italy, Canada, the UK, Poland, and others. Through international exchange programmes, including Erasmus and Erasmus+, students gain global exposure, enhance employability, experience diverse teaching methods, and build valuable international networks.
Since its inception, UoK has been dedicated to producing graduates who meet the dynamic demands of local, regional, and global labour markets. The University contributes to national development by delivering skilled professionals through a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programmes offered across its six schools: the School of Business Management and Economics, School of Computing and Information Technology, School of Education, School of Law, School of Professional and Executive Programmes, and the Graduate School.
